| History of the Baltimore Unit |
| On January 15, 1983, the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Maryland, Inc organized another unit, Baltimore City Unit. Its first president was Brother Joshua R. Jones, who for many years had serviced as vice president of state and many other capacities. As the first president, he strived to keep in step with the state and national activities. He served with honorable distinction, moving forward until his health failed. In, 1984, Brother Willie King took the reign to carry on the works of the organization, trying to broaden our relationship with all churches regardless of denomination creating fellowship. With his illness he fought a good fight until his death, serving as Baltimore City second president. In 1989 Sister Jessie L. Brown was elected as its third president, whose goal was to try and keep the religious fellowship that was the dream of Elijah Hamilton.
In 1995, Sister Muriel Gray was elected the fourth President. Sis. Gray has the determination and energy to forge forward with the initiative to make the Unit the best in the State.
In 1997, Brother Lloyd C. Morse, Jr., was elected the fifth President. Bro. Morse came up through the ranks as a junior to a senior. He has the will and determination to carry the Unit to new and higher heights.
In 1999, Brother Preston Jennings was elected the sixth President. Bro. Jennings tried instilling a sense of pride in the School of Instruction.
In 2001, Sister Muriel Gray served again as the seventh president.
In 2002, Sister Patricia Harris became the eighth President. Sis. Harris has the energy and fortitude to carry the Unit to continue being the best in the State. Morning Star Baptist Church - Catonsville, Grace A.M.E. - Catonsville, Greater Harvest Baptist Church - Baltimore City, Huber Memorial Church - Baltimore City, Zion Baptist Church of Christ - Dundalk, 11th Hour Ministries - Baltimore City. Sister Logan was also influential in launching the Unit's first -1st- City-wide Workshop/Seminar for
Church Ushers of all denominations."
We are trying on a smaller scale as that of our national body: 1. To promote fellowship. 2. Unify ushering. 3. Provide scholarship for our young adults. 4. Break down interdenominational barriers. 5. Provide additional activities to help ushers prepare for kingdom building. |
